Jens Bode, Regional Director North of Volvo Trucks and Marko Studier, Sales Consultant of Volvo Trucks in Rostock, handed over the first seven Volvo FH LNG trucks to René and Alexander Bielesch, Managing Directors of REAX Transporte GmbH. REAX Transporte GmbH was founded seven years ago and is one of the most successful freight forwarders in Northeastern Germany.
"It is the first major order for LNG trucks to be delivered and we are pleased that it has been completed in the (German) northeast," emphasizes Bode.
Emanuel Lauf, Sales Director Volvo Trucks Germany, also congratulated the new vehicles: "Large orders such as these prove that the LNG technology is successful and future-proof."
Since its founding, REAX Transporte has been a customer of Volvo Trucks in Rostock. Every three years, the company renews its fleet, this time the freight forwarder decided in favor of LNG trucks. "For us, both economic and environmental factors played a role in the acquisition," explains René Bielesch. "The trucks are not only CO 2 -emerging, but also the consumption per 100 kilometers is lower. And the new trucks will initially be exempted from the truck toll by the end of 2020. "Jens Bode also confirms this:" The LNG trucks are particularly attractive to our customers because of the toll exemption. "
For Bielesch, whose trucks are mainly in the north and northeast of Germany, refueling is already not an issue: "The LNG refueling station in Berlin is only a few kilometers away from our Vogelsdorf location. We will also use the gas station in Hamburg on our trips. "
The powertrain of LNG trucks is based on proven diesel engine technology and offers the same performance, but with about 20 percent less CO₂ emissions. 100 percent emission-free is achieved with Bio-LNG. The Volvo LNG engine uses 90 to 95 percent LNG for propulsion and only about 5 to 10 percent diesel to ignite LNG. The natural gas is stored at minus 140 degrees Celsius in liquid form. Depending on the tank size, it can handle a distance of up to 1000 kilometers.
