The city of Puebla, in Mexico has added 37 new natural gas powered SCANIA buses, in what is Mexico's first CNG "blue corridor". This is the largest delivery of Scania CNG buses in Mexico, so far and it shows the growth in the use of Natural Gas as a fuel in the country.
Scania delivered 37 buses; 25 are articulated and 12 are standard high floor with double entry heights. All units are Euro VI, and the use of natural gas will reduce the particulate emissions by 99%. Another big advantage of these units is that the noise emissions ar one fifth than those of a diesel bus, thus providing more comfort to users, drivers and the general public.
"There are many and very diverse fuel options; for Latin America in particular, natural gas has been ideal for public transport due in part to the fuel price and therefore the cost of operation in most countries, it is usually low and remarkably efficient, "said Enrique Enrich, CEO of Scania Mexico.
In Mexico there have been great advances in the adoption of natural gas; the main factor continues to be a multifactorial issue in which both legislation, concessionaires and operating costs continue to play a decisive role. "The interest of the private sector is a starting point that should not be ignored in future plans that include these new technologies and more cities see the positive results and there is a spirit to change the paradigm towards alternative fuels" finished Enrich.
