The two Liquefied Natural Gas powered units of the Green Efficiency line, have a range of up to 1,100 kilometers, also reducing operating costs and exhaust emissions.
Scania Argentina, leading company in the field of sustainable transport, delivered the two LNG powered units to Buquebus, the main company that operates ferry services between Argentina and Uruguay. This investment adds to the initiative started in 2012 with the purchase of the LNG-powered vessel “Papa Francisco” and the installation of a modular liquefaction plant in San Vicente, Buenos Aires province.
"The path to sustainable and efficient transportation must be undertaken by all the involved stakeholders. These trucks from our Green Efficiency line were designed to run exclusively on LNG, and Buquebus' choice for this type of alternative fuel is essential to continue reducing polluting emissions, "said Andrés Leonard, CEO of the company, at the event where Scania Argentina entered into the strategic agreement with Buquebus.
The brand new P340 6x2 units powered by LNG, allow a range of up to 1,100 kilometers, increase efficiency, reduce noise impact by 50% and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 20%, compared to conventional EURO VI diesel versions. In addition, they achieve a reduction in operating costs of up to 50%. All Scania engines exceed the requirements of the Euro VI standard. Currently the emission standards in Argentina only require compliance to EURO V, so the environmental benefits of these units exceed by much the above-mentioned level.
Located in San Vicente, distant 60 km from the port of Buenos Aires where Buquebus fleet operates, the Buquebus LNG plant was the place chosen to announce this important step in sustainable vertical integration. "We are convinced that the evolution of transport, in all its forms, must advance on the path of sustainability, and that motivated us to choose Scania LNG trucks," said Juan Carlos López Mena, president of Buquebus.
The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, participated in the event, and stated: "This sustainable integration is very symbolic of what we have to do, because it demonstrates a strategic alliance in pursuit of efficiency and caring for the environment in the transportation of cargo and passengers ". And he highlighted: "Behind this there are thriving businessmen, who choose to invest in Argentina, and show that if they take risks, we all benefit."
Scania Argentina presented, in March, its Green Efficiency product line, comprised of trucks, buses and engines capable of running on gas and biogas, both in compressed (CNG) and liquid (LNG) form, designed with the aim of achieving the lowest operating cost and reduce polluting CO2 emissions by up to 20% with natural gas and 90% with biogas when compared with equivalent EURO VI conventional diesel units.
Global Gas Mobility is proud and happy to continue to support SCANIA in its gas powered mobility activities in Argentina.
