Scania introduces world’s first LNG long-distance coach

At IAA in Hannover from September 20-27, Scania is presenting its new Scania Interlink Medium Decker coach for liquefied gas (LNG) operations with a range of up to 1,000 kilometres.

“Whereas there are several options for carbon-conscious city and suburban bus operators, there has been a void in long-distance travel market that we have now addressed,” says Karin Rådström, Head of Buses and Coaches at Scania.

LNG operations have the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 percent while also substantially reducing nitrogen oxide and almost eliminating particulate matter emissions. Additionally, noise levels are significantly lower. Some countries are also now starting to offer liquified biogas, cutting carbon emissions by 90 percent or even much more.

The advance in the small and micro LNG technology has opened a new perspective towards the use of LNG in mobility, both urban and long distance.
